Hygiene Program Effectiveness Formula How efficient is your Dental Hygiene Department? Most practice don't reach near their full potential and lose money. The conservative formula for recall system effectiveness is: 1) Take the number of active patients you have and double that number (2 recall appointments per year). Divide this number by 12 (12 months). 2) Calculate how many patients your hygienist(s) see on an average day. Calculate how many days your hygienist(s) work each month. Multiply the number of patients seen per day by the number of hygiene days per month. 3) Divide the answer obtained in 2) by the answer from 1) and this will give you a percentage of effectiveness in your recall program. Sample: o 1850 active patients x 2 = 3700 o 3700 ÷ 12 = 308 o 9 patients seen per day (average) o 22 days per month o 9 x 22 = 198 o 198 ÷ 308 = 0.642 or 64% effective Figures are based on an average practice that sees patients twice per year. The ADEI recommends a recall system based on individual patient needs with 3, 4 or 6 month hygiene appointments. These figures should be monitored for at least three months to determine the average effectiveness of your recall program over a period of time. |
